Beach Days

Just a few weeks ago I was raving about how winter had finally arrived… it was good while it lasted, but it seems to have been short. I went from shooting on another sunny Sunday at Cypress, to enjoying burgers and beer at sunset on Jericho beach in less than 45 minutes – I really love living in this city.

I wanted to throw a strobe onto Colin in this photo, but my camera battery decided to call it quits after a long day of shooting, and the spare was in the car. I still like it.

Heron Hunting

I took advantage of the good weather and low tide today, and went on a Heron hunt. The last few Herons I’d come across weren’t too happy having me near them; this guy didn’t seem to mind me too much…

Well, so much for posting a new photo every day… Heres a shot of Vancouver from western Kits beach, converted from DNG. I have to say a word about RAW here… if you aren’t shooting RAW yet, especially if you own a K10D… wake up! It took me a few months to finally realize the benefits, but now that I have I’m not going back.

Day 2 of Grouse Mountain’s 1st inaugural Quicksilver Showdown Over the City wrapped up today with the pro rail/hip session. Mike Osachuk took home the $4000 top prize, while Dave Fortin rode away with $1000 as the crowd favorite for his gravity defying air (left). More photos to follow as I process them…

The Quicksilver Showdown over the City got underway today at Grouse Mountain with the amateur qualifying session. JF Pelchat happened to stop by and show the competitors how the pros do things…

5 guys and 3 girls advanced to the actual competition tomorrow, where they will be duking it out with the pros for the $10,000 purse. Hopefully the weather cooperates and shooting conditions are a little better this time
